International Conference

The Munich Security Conference (MSC) and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Forum are co-organising the international conference »Energy Security« under the chairmanship of Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger (MSC) and editor Dr Günther Nonnenmacher (F.A.Z.) for the second time.

The Crimea crisis has caused energy policy, energy security, and energy supply to move right to the top of the agenda of national and international policymakers.

International decision makers from politics, economy, industry, and science will discuss European and global energy security at the »Energy Security« conference, which is held under the patronage of the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Sigmar Gabriel, and the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The conference will focus especially on the shale revolution emanating from the United States and its geo-strategic implications worldwide.

The shale revolution, which began in the U.S., heralds the next »Great Game« on the geostrategic map and the global energy markets. It raises issues about the impacts of power politics and competition policy, a sustainable European supply strategy, the future direction of the OPEC countries and the traditional oil industry, as well as the future of renewable energies. Regional focus will be placed on the impacts of the shale revolution on Russia, the Middle East, the Caucasus Region and China. The conference brings together decision-makers from politics and industry – like innovative companies – as well as renowned scientists and representatives of international organizations and non-government organizations.

The international conference »Energy Security« will focus on issues such as changing energy supply and demand as well as options for reducing dependency on raw materials and energy imports. The debate will extend to aspects of security policy such as changing supply routes and critical infrastructures, securing exploration and distribution sites as well as environmental challenges in the area of raw materials and energy exploration such as fracking.
